Eastern Sierra Observatory Star Parties

The Telescope Guys are proud to support select star party events hosted by the Eastern Sierra Observatory.

These multi-night observing experiences take place on a private 80-acre property in Panamint Valley, California — one of the darkest and most spectacular observing locations in the region.

What’s Included

A Forest of Glass Under Orion

Captured on March 25, 2025, at the Great Orion Dark Sky Festival, this image showcases an extraordinary outreach setup assembled under pristine desert skies. The lineup includes two 25-inch Obsession Dobsonians, a 22-inch, 18-inch, and 15-inch Obsession, a 12-inch Meade LX200, a Celestron Origin, an Explore Scientific AR152 refractor, Coronado 60 mm and 70 mm H-alpha solar scopes, and two 100 mm binocular systems mounted on parallelogram mounts. Together, these instruments formed a small observatory in the open air—inviting festival attendees to explore the universe across apertures, wavelengths, and perspectives, from sweeping binocular views to deep-sky giants.

The Location & Experience

The observing site is a remote, unimproved desert location. There is no water or electricity onsite, and all attendees must pack in everything they need and pack out everything they bring.

The site offers vast desert views, exceptional dark skies, and easy access to nearby destinations such as Death Valley, Trona Pinnacles, Darwin Falls, and countless canyon hikes.
